INTELLIGENT ION'S CCD DETECTOR TECHNOLOGY RECEIVES PATENT

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – June 24, 2003. Intelligent Ion, a developer of miniaturized mass spectrometers, announced today that the United States Patent Office has granted a patent on its important CCD (Charge Coupled Device) based detector technology (Patent #6,576,899). The technology was developed at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for use in mass spectrometry for space applications. Intelligent Ion has an exclusive licensing arrangement with Caltech. "The CCD detector, in combination with our overall IP estate, allows us to build a highly sensitive, rugged, and low cost mass spectrometer in a small desktop configuration," states Dr. Adi Scheidemann, Vice President of Product Development & Research. Patents on the CCD detector for Europe and Japan are currently pending.

Intelligent Ion is developing miniature mass spectrometers using patented technologies from the University of Washington and Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It is bringing to market a line of products that have immediate, high-value applications in the life sciences, laboratory analytics, process control and environmental industries.
